Last night, after the initial meeting was over, the 12 of us were called over towards the execs and they said simply "we are going to call nine names. If your name is called, you are safe. If not, you have been cut." As they reeled off the list, I remained in my seat until there remained myself and two others in the room with the current execs. It was over. I was cut in the first round of cuts.
As I remained in the chair, the execs spoke up, saying "well, as you can see, you three have been cut from consideration." I just wanted to leave the room. However, I had to stay and listen as the execs critiqued us on how our shows went and what the deciding factor was in cutting us. After getting through the first two people, the execs turned to me. I was told simply "You weren't prepared enough on camera. You were too repetitive and you never took simple notes to bring on the show". They gave us all things that were good about us. They said they liked my energy on the show. The meeting ended, they let us three go, and called in the remaining nine.
As I left the meeting up until a few moments ago, I questioned to myself "Where do I go from here?" Is this the end for me and MUTV? Could I possibly get a job at KOMU? Is it beneficial for me to continue on MUTV the remainder of the year or should I just do this week's assignments and call it a year?" These are questions that I keep asking myself. What does the future hold for me? I guess we'll find out and see.
In any case, I can't say MUTV has been a bad experience at all. The execs have been friendly and helpful the entire year, and my core group of friends are in MUTV. Matter of fact, my entire core group of friends made it to the next round. I can only look back at all the experience I have gained and all I have learned. I'm currently editing my 5th package, I've done a plethora of web stories, and I even got to guest host as a part of the experience. In the end, I have to say it was a pretty good year for me.
So I say thank you to all who have made me a better journalist in the last seven months. I thank MUTV for the wonderful experience and the opportunity it gave me to improve. I appreciate the execs for always helping me and giving me helpful critiques that I always tried to follow. I'm appreciative that I made many good friends at MUTV, and appreciative that I was able to learn so much throughout the year.
Although not many people may read this, this is something that has been weighing on me for the last 24 hours. The best way for me to get it off my chest? Blog about it. This is the reason why I blog. Although I love to talk sports and I love to be very analytic about things, I also can use this as an escape and as a way of describing my current state. It helps me look back on the fonder things so I can have an easier time looking forward. As Freshman year comes to a close, I know I have improved so much and know that Missouri was definitely the right school for me.
